Daytona Beach, Florida is known as “The World’s Most Famous Beach” for good reason. At low tide, this breathtaking 23-mile long white sand beach is 500 feet wide. By far, the beach is the major attraction in the Daytona Beach area. You can drive your car on a specially designated 18-mile stretch of hard-packed sand during daytime hours. The daily charge per vehicle is $5.00 (during February through Labor Day) and it is free during other times of the year. The speed limit on the beach is 10 miles per hour. Daytona Beach has long been thought of as a “party town,” (especially during Spring break,) but in recent years it’s become much more of a family-friendly seaside vacation destination. Lifeguards are positioned along the beach for your safety and you can rent just about everything you need – including water floats, lounge chairs, beach umbrellas, bicycles and motorbikes. You also wont go hungry at Daytona Beach – there is an assortment of hot dogs, ice cream and other foods, along with cold sodas available from beachside vendors. Every type of recreational sport is available, from swimming, boating and fishing to championship golf and tennis. You can go parasailing, take surfing lessons, enjoy beach volleyball and jet skiing or explore the area’s scenic waterways by kayak or canoe. Daytona Beach’s ocean park atmosphere goes on all year round – and the city’s famous pier and boardwalk is lined with restaurants and cafes, bars, shops and entertainment.

From April 15 through October 15, Daytona Beach is part of an amazing cycle of life. Volusia’s Sea Turtles emerge from the surf at night to lay eggs in a nest dug into the dry sand and then they return to the seas. These fascinating creatures have been doing this same ritual for thousands of years. Beach driving and parking is prohibited west of an established dune conservation zone and beachfront lighting is limited at night to protect this fragile dune area.

Daytona Beach is also known as “The World Center of Racing.” It has been a destination for racing enthusiasts since the early 1900s when automobiles first raced on the beach. Today, hundreds of thousands of race fans come to Daytona Beach, home of NASCAR, for the Daytona 500, the Pepsi 400, the Daytona Beach Bike Week Daytona 200 and many other races throughout the year. In addition, the city is home to the Daytona Cubs, a minor league baseball team of the Florida State League. Other area attractions include the Daytona Lagoon, the Marine Discovery Center, the Daytona International Speedway, Volusia Speedway Park and the New Smyrna Speedway. The 225,000 square foot Ocean Center is located one block from the ocean and is the site of numerous sporting events and concerts throughout the year. Daytona Beach also has shopping and dining to suit everyone’s taste and a diverse cultural scene. The list of museums include the historic Peabody Auditorium, the Seaside Music Theater, and the Halifax Historical Museum, the Southeast Museum of Photography, the Museum of Arts & Sciences and the Mary McLeod Bethune Fine Arts Center.
